Pupils at Valley focus on and develop six key skills (Drawing, Painting, 3D Sculpture, 2D Textiles, Printing and Digital Media) as well as learning about and drawing inspiration from a wide range of great artists through time. To ensure the continued development of the children’s learning, the Threshold Concepts for Art set out a clear and staged progression for them to achieve at the end of each two-year phase. This gives the children an opportunity to express themselves through the work they create and helps them to think critically about the work they want to produce.

Art Threshold Concept Areas:

⦁ Express feelings, thoughts and mood through colour and texture.

⦁ Use a variety of artistic techniques.

⦁ Explore, Invent, Create and Reflect.

⦁ Find inspiration from great artists.

Through their time at Valley the children study and draw inspiration from a wide range of artists including: Quentin Blake, Frank Bowling, Sonia Boyce, Sonia Delaunay, Barbara Hepworth, Lubaina Himid, Anwar Jalal Shemza, Frida Kahlo, Yayio Kusama, L S Lowry, Henri Matisse, Piet Mondrian, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Beatrix Potter and Yinka Shonibare.
